Supporting a sustainable future | 8.5million trees by 2028 |
As we work with urgency to decarbonise our shipping operations, Berge Bulk is investing in solutions to capture carbon — through both technology and nature — with an overall commitment to plant at least 25 million trees globally.
The High Atlas Foundation
The High Atlas Foundation promotes agriculture, water infrastructure, women’s and youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and interfaith cooperation. Their goal is to ensure the self-reliant development and long-term well-being of local communities.
How It Works
High Atlas grows tree seedlings across Morocco in 15 community-managed nurseries. A wide variety of seeds are planted, such as almond, fig, pomegranate, lemon and carob. Once matured, the saplings are sold to farmers around the country (at affordable rates). Women’s empowerment is at the centre of these nature-based projects — supporting pathways to sustainable social and economic well-being.
Success will mean planting 8.5 million trees, contributing to improving livelihoods across communities. Witnessing High Atlas Foundation’s impact reaffirmed the value of investing in carbon offset projects.
Supporting Local Communities
By supporting these rural communities we’re helping to give them the resources that they need to work towards the futures that they want for themselves. The community development work being done by the Foundation would not be possible without the funding from Berge Bulk and other like-minded organisations, and our overall commitment to planting over 25 million trees by 2026 would not be possible without organisations such as High Atlas.
Project Partners
The High Atlas Foundation was founded in 2000 by former Peace Corps volunteers committed to furthering sustainable development in Morocco. Their love of the Moroccan people and culture, and local communities’ vast potential to generate shared prosperity, are driving forces behind their work.
